Recent study tests omega-3 fatty acids as a remedy for psychiatric disorders

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for a variety of bodily functions including brain function. According to Harvard School of Public Health, these nutrients are responsible for building brain cell membranes.

For this reason, omega-3 fatty acids have been used in studies to find out if they can play a role in helping psychiatric and medical disorders. The Zucker Hillside Hospital has recently conducted a study as part of their Recognition and Prevention (RAP) Program to test if these nutrients can help teenagers at risk for serious mental illness. So far, most of the study participants have shown improvement when given omega-3.

“If this study continues to show success, Omega 3 could offer a natural alternative to the range of medications and therapies now offered to RAP participants,” said Barbara Cornblatt, PhD, the program’s director and investigator at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research.

Dr. Newton’s Natural offers a great source of omega-3 fatty acids in Omega Krill. The source of the nutrients in this product is not fish oil, but krill oil, derived from shrimp-like crustaceans. Krill oil has three times more omega-3 than fish oil. Omega Krill can help to fortify the mind and power up the brain.
