You know probiotics are good for digestion, but there are many more benefits of these healthy, “good” bacteria. Here are three good reasons you should be taking probiotics.
- Weight Loss – A new meta-analysis published in the International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition provides compelling evidence of probiotic consumption and weight loss. Researchers looked at the findings of 25 randomized trials that included over 1900 healthy adults. They found that ingesting more than just one type of probiotic for at least 8 weeks resulted in the greatest amount of weight loss. Those suffering from diabetes should take note since probiotics can also improve your blood sugar.
- Improved Skin – If you suffer from eczema or other related skin conditions, probiotics can be very beneficial. Many skin issues are related to inflammation and probiotics introduce healthy bacteria to the gut, creating a barrier to reduce inflammation. There is compelling new evidence to suggest that probiotics are a promising new treatment for acne and rosacea.
- Increased Immunity – The “good” bacteria in probiotics help fight infections. Research on athletes found fewer incidences of respiratory infection in those taking probiotics. Allergy sufferers can also benefit from probiotics. A study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that allergy sufferers who took the probiotic, B lactis, once a day for 8 weeks were less congested two months later. They also had lower levels of pro-inflammatory markers.
