What causes heartburn?

Under normal conditions, the LES opens to let food enter your stomach, but when it does not close properly, you begin to have the burning feeling.

Besides eating too much or eating certain foods, there are a variety of factors that can contribute to your heartburn frequency. Lifestyle habits include smoking, lying down after eating, stress and being overweight, according to Cleveland Clinic.
