New hope in the treatment of hair loss

A chemical compound that induces hair growth was found during a study on how stress affects gastrointestinal dysfunction. The accidental findings made by researchers from UCLA and the Veterans Administration, headed by Dr. Million Mulugeta of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, were published in PLoS One.

“Our findings show that a short-duration treatment with this compound causes an astounding long-term hair regrowth in chronically stressed mutant mice,” states Mulugeta. “This could open new venues to treat hair loss in humans through the modulation of the stress hormone receptors, particularly hair loss related to chronic stress and aging.”

Currently, the compound, called astressin-B, has only been tested in mice. Further studies will need to be completed to determine effectiveness in humans, but previous results are promising.

If you suffer from hair loss, you don’t have to wait for this compound to be further researched. Dr. Newton’s Naturals sells a product called Dr. Harris’ Original Nature’s Hair + Capsules that may stop hair loss and promote hair growth in men and women.
